Our Story
Starting from humble beginnings back in 2007 as a fun festival brand, Electric Pukeko is a NZ owned and operated hat and sunglass wholesaler originating from Havelock North, Hawkes Bay and recently relocating to North Canterbury for a lifestyle change.
We design all our products ourselves and visit our suppliers each season to work on our new designs and prototypes.
All our designs are on trend yet practical, keeping our customers looking stylish as well as offering protection from the harsh NZ elements.
Most of our materials used are sustainable. Wool, Hemp, Paper and FSC certified wood are our most common materials used. We have had our materials independently tested through ARPANSA and are rated UPF50+ for excellent sun protection Our polarised sunglass lenses meet NZ/AUS standards AS/NZS 1067:2016.
We take great pride in our quality sustainable products, pop up shop displays, excellent customer service and affordable pricing, keeping our customers and stockists satisfied when they support our small NZ business.

The Team
Owned and operated by Hawkes Bay couple Andrew and Jess (with a recent relocation to North Canterbury).
Andrew and Jess are thrilled to have created a summer lifestyle brand. Whilst being super busy during the NZ Summers – supplying products to shops, running the online store, organisation of promotional products and promoting EP with their eye-catching pop-up shop at various music festivals and events around the country.
Wintertime generally consists of our all-important China buying/ production trip (which comes with its own awesome adventures where we often create so many epic memories) followed by a well-deserved European family holiday and research trip of the EU fashion.
We easily fill that downtime period spending quality time as a family, beach hopping around in our motorhome. We do market research of the European fashion scene to keep up with the latest trends and materials being used abroad.
These epic adventures on the road are our inspiration for each new season’s range. We come back feeling refreshed, cups full and ready for another full-on NZ Summer Season!

Our Suppliers
Building Working Relationships
Our suppliers all have a high standard working environment. The employees are paid a fair living wage and can enjoy a 9-hour working day, with time off on the weekends or rostered shifts to spend quality time with family.
We have built long lasting friendships with our suppliers over our 16-year working relationship. Our buying/production trips are truly a highlight each year. Each trip we endeavour to see a new part of China as it a remarkable country with so much on offer. We like to learn the culture, etiquette, language and experience the culinary delights.
We have a mutual respect with the people, and this has built trust and a long-term bond. One major highlight for us was being able to take both sets of our parents across for a holiday / buying trip to show them why we love the country so much as well as the relationships we’ve made. We really enjoy our work life experiences and the memories that are made.
